What Was Vanced MicroG?
Vanced MicroG was a custom implementation of Google's proprietary framework APIs built specifically for the YouTube Vanced project. It allowed YouTube Vanced to access Google account features without requiring the full Google Play Services suite or root access. Vanced MicroG handled:
- Google account sign-in: Authenticate your Google account within YouTube Vanced
- Push notifications (FCM): Receive notifications for new uploads and comments
- Account sync: Sync subscriptions, watch history, and liked videos
- Authentication tokens: Generate and refresh tokens for API access
- SafetyNet bypass: Pass Google's device integrity checks for login
Why MicroG Was Required
YouTube requires Google authentication for personalized features. Since YouTube Vanced was installed as a separate app with a different package name (to coexist with the official YouTube app), it could not use the standard Google Play Services for authentication. Vanced MicroG acted as a lightweight bridge between the modified app and Google's servers.
Without MicroG installed, YouTube Vanced would work in a limited "logged out" mode — you could watch videos but could not access subscriptions, history, recommendations, or comments.

Current Status of Vanced MicroG
Vanced MicroG is no longer maintained as of March 2022. As Google continuously updates its authentication protocols, old MicroG versions become increasingly unreliable. Common issues in 2026 include:
Common Vanced MicroG Problems
- Login loops: MicroG can no longer authenticate with Google's updated OAuth systems, causing endless login prompts
- Crashes on newer Android: Outdated MicroG versions may crash on Android 13, 14, and 15
- Missing push notifications: FCM (Firebase Cloud Messaging) tokens expire and cannot be refreshed
- Account sync failures: Subscriptions, watch history, and liked videos stop syncing
- "Network error" on login: SSL certificate pinning changes cause connection failures
If you are experiencing any of these issues, the solution is to migrate to ReVanced with the updated GmsCore component.
What Replaced Vanced MicroG?
In the ReVanced ecosystem, the equivalent component is called GmsCore (previously known as ReVanced MicroG). It serves the same purpose — enabling Google account login in patched apps — but is actively maintained and updated to work with current Google authentication methods.

- Open the patched YouTube app and sign in — GmsCore will handle authentication
Frequently Asked Questions
Vanced MicroG was a companion app for YouTube Vanced that enabled Google account login on non-rooted Android devices without requiring full Google Play Services.
Mostly not. It is increasingly unreliable as Google updates its authentication. Login loops and crashes are common in 2026.
GmsCore (formerly ReVanced MicroG) is the actively maintained replacement. Download it from the official ReVanced GitHub.
You need GmsCore (the updated version), not the old Vanced MicroG. GmsCore is required for Google account login on non-rooted devices.
