What Was YouTube Vanced MicroG?
YouTube Vanced MicroG was a custom implementation of Google's proprietary framework APIs, built for the Vanced project. It let the modified app reach Google account features without the full Google Play Services suite or root access. MicroG handled:
- Google account sign-in: authenticate your Google account inside the app
- Push notifications (FCM): receive notifications for new uploads and comments
- Account sync: keep subscriptions, watch history, and liked videos in sync
- Authentication tokens: generate and refresh tokens for API access
- SafetyNet bypass: pass Google's device integrity checks at login
Why MicroG Was Required
YouTube requires Google authentication for personalized features. Vanced installed as a separate app with its own package name so it could coexist with official YouTube, which meant it could not use the standard Google Play Services for authentication. Vanced MicroG bridged the gap between the modified app and Google's servers.
Without MicroG installed, the app ran in a limited "logged out" mode. You could watch videos but had no subscriptions, history, recommendations, or comments.

Current Status of Vanced MicroG
Nobody has maintained the component since March 2022. Google keeps revising its authentication protocols, and each revision leaves the old builds a little more broken.
Common YouTube Vanced MicroG Problems
- Login loops: the old builds cannot authenticate with Google's updated OAuth systems, so the login prompt repeats endlessly
- Crashes on newer Android: outdated versions may crash on Android 13, 14, and 15
- Missing push notifications: FCM (Firebase Cloud Messaging) tokens expire and cannot be refreshed
- Account sync failures: subscriptions, watch history, and liked videos stop syncing
- "Network error" on login: SSL certificate pinning changes break the connection
If you are hitting any of these, the fix is to migrate to ReVanced with the updated GmsCore component.
What Replaced Vanced MicroG?
In the ReVanced ecosystem the equivalent component is called GmsCore, previously known as ReVanced MicroG. It does the same job of enabling Google account login in patched apps, and it is actively maintained against current Google authentication.

Frequently Asked Questions
Vanced MicroG was a companion app for YouTube Vanced that handled Google account login on non-rooted Android devices. It stood in for Google Play Services, covering authentication, push notifications, and account sync.
Less and less. Google keeps updating its authentication systems, and the old MicroG builds fail against them. That failure is the main reason old Vanced installations can no longer sign in.
GmsCore, formerly known as ReVanced MicroG, replaced it in the ReVanced ecosystem. It is actively maintained and works with current Google authentication.
Yes, but the ReVanced version is called GmsCore. Non-rooted devices need it to sign into a Google account in the patched YouTube app. Download it from the official ReVanced GitHub.
